Single Scoop: Elves of Kaldheim (Historic, Magic Arena)
One of the tribes that got a ton of new toys from Kaldheim was the elf tribe. The big question was how much better are these elves and will there be enough to help boost the tribe in power level? Here's a list that I came up with on the Kaldheim elves...
Gameplan
Elves are all about exploding onto the board and eventually building up enough mana to find some big finisher like Craterhoof Behemoth. For Historic, the elves lacked reach without Shaman of the Pack but Kaldheim gives us something similar in Skemfar Shadowsage.
This card isn't the same thing as the Shaman as it can't be grabbed off of Collected Company, but it's the best we've got for the time being. On top of that, the addition of black gave us a few other elves to play with like Skemfar Avenger to help us refuel in the event of a sweeper from our opponents.
I think the best card that Kaldheim has brought to the elf tribe is Elvish Warmaster.
This card is an absolute house as it's a cheap threat that scales into the late game with an awesome activated ability. Most importantly, this card will spawn an elven army quickly. Right now, I'm trying this card in place of Dwynen's Elite. That could be wrong but so far, it feels this card should be somewhere in the main 60. Another card we've added is Realmwalker which gives us the ability to cast off the top of our library. It serves as the elf version of Conspicuous Snoop!
Conclusion
The Kaldheim elves are a nice addition to the tribe but still aren't strong enough to help push them anywhere near Goblins. However, there are a few gems like Elvish Warmaster to elevate the tribe just a tad bit higher. Skemfar Shadowsage is definitely not Shaman of the Pack but it felt good to have reach with the elf deck. As of right now, the elves feel like a solid tier 2 deck until it gets a little bit more support in historic. A card like Ezuri, Renegade Leader would definitely give the elves what they've been needing in a powerful mana sink!
