Single Scoop: Invoke is 2022's Cruel Ultimatum?

Gameplan

Mono black was pretty powerful before Neon Dynasty's arrival but it might've gotten a sweet new spell in Invoke Despair. The card reminds me of a mini Cruel Ultimatum

$ 0.00 $ 0.00 $ 0.00 $ 0.00

The ability to put a majority of Midrange decks in a tight spot due to Despair's value is what we love. Outside of aggro matchups, the card will put us up a ton of cards and have us swimming in Card advantage. Our deck is pretty good at doing a bunch of chip damage with cards like Shambling Ghast and Eyetwitch thus forcing our slower opponents to answer our little critters.

Conclusion

Mono Black definitely got some sweet new tools and its pretty cool to see a format with multiple archetypes. Mono-Black Control will continue to be a solid option for players who don't want to play counterspell heavy control playstyles.
