Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week we had our first Mythic Championship of the season, but prices were fairly tame compared to some past Pro Tours. In Standard, the biggest trends of the week were cards from Mono-Blue Tempo (which put multiple players in the top eight of Mythic Championship Cleveland) increasing in price with Entrancing Melody, Pteramander, and Chart a Course all ticking up this week. Thankfully, the deck itself is still comparatively cheap if you're interested in testing it out. This said, we've reached the point where we're just over six months from rotation, which means the general trend on rotating Standard cards will be down over the next several months.
While so far this changes hasn't manifested itself in price movements, the other big news of the week is that we'll be testing a new mulligan rule at the Modern Mythic Championship in London at the end of April. The common assumption about the proposed change it that it powers up both combo decks and powerful sideboard cards like Leyline of the Void, Leyline of Sanctity, and Stony Silence, especially in older formats like Modern, Legacy, and Vintage. Whether the rule actually becomes law is anyone's guess at this point, but if it is implemented, expect some major price movement on both combo pieces and cards that stop combos. If you're expecting the rule to be fully implemented, the smartest move is probably to pick up these pieces now before other people buy in after the rule change.
Finally, Craterhoof Behemoth is on the rise. While the card only really sees play in Legacy Elves, it's also a Commander staple. At this point, the eight-drop costs more than it did back before it was reprinted in Modern Masters 2017. If it isn't reprinted soon it could continue to rise, although if you're in the market for a copy or two, it is probably worth waiting until next week since we're expecting a product announcement for a Modern-focused supplemental product on Thursday. If it's a reprint-focused set, Craterhoof Behemoth could be high on the potential reprint list.
