Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
Once again, most of the finance news this week comes to us from Modern where everything is still in flux thanks to the release of Modern Masters 2017. The biggest winner is Street Wraith, which increased nearly 200% to about $10 (depending on the printing). The Death's Shadow Jund and Living End staple could easily have shown up in MM3, but managed to avoid the reprint bug. With no likely reprinting on the horizon, it was bought out. While the price might come down a little bit, expect the cycler to be among the most expensive uncommons in the Modern format for the next year or two barring a surprise reprinting in a supplemental product.
As for Modern Masters 2017 itself, cards are trending down in general, although the biggest losers are the middle of the pack rares. Many of the mythics and uncommons may already be near their floor (in fact, many chase uncommons actually ticked up slightly this week). The biggest question is the fetchlands. While I think they may fall a little bit more, I'm also cautious about underestimating the demand for fetches thanks to some experiences on Magic Online where we've had Zendikar flashback drafts and actually saw the fetchlands go up in price while supply was increasing.
Finally, in Standard, the "no changes" Banned and Restricted announcement on Monday ended up meaning "no changes" in finance as well. While we see some very small fluctuations, everyone is waiting for Amonkhet to (hopefully) shake up the two deck format. However, we are reaching the end of the peak for cards that will rotate in the fall, so if you have unused Battle for Zendikar or Shadows over Innistrad block cards, sell or trade them now for maximum returns.
