Budget Magic: $20 UG Kicker (Standard) |

Zendikar Rising is here. Let's kick off (literally) our exploration of our new Standard format with a deck that is both absurdly cheap and absurdly fun: UG Kicker!Read more
This week, outside of another round of buyouts of random, mostly unplayed Reserved List cards, the biggest finance news comes from the rise of Mill in Modern. Thanks to the printing of Ruin Crab whiches gives the deck eight one-mana mill creatures (along with Hedron Crab), Mill in Modern has quickly gone from a fringe archetype to a legitimate tournament deck. As a result, the best mill card in the format — Archive Trap — has shot up from around $10 to over $20 in the past couple of weeks. While Mill is certainly powerful today, there is a question as to whether it can continue its newfound success once players start building their decks and sideboards with Mill in mind. We tried the deck on stream last week and players were already packing Gaea's Blessings in their sideboards. If Mill can find a way to keep winning through the hate, it wouldn't be surprise to see the key cards in the deck continue to creep up in price over the coming months.
While most of the talk about Omnath, Locus of Creation has focused on its domination in Zendikar Rising Standard, it might be its Commander playability that has a bigger impact on prices. According to EDHRec, Omnath, Locus of Creation is currently one of the five most played-commanders in the format and the most-popular legend from Zendikar Rising by a significant margin. The most interesting aspect of Omnath, Locus of Creation in Commander is how it is increasing the price of other Omnaths, presumably because players are jamming them in Omnath, Locus of Creation decks. Omnath, Locus of the Roil doubled in price over the past week from around $4 to $8, even though it just rotated from Standard. Meanwhile, both Omnath, Locus of Rage and Omnath, Locus of Mana are creeping up as well. If you're thinking of building Omnath Tribal in Commander, you should probably get your Omnaths (outside of perhaps Omnath, Locus of Creation itself which could be banned in Standard tomorrow and drop in price) now. They will likely continue to trend up as more players build around them in Commander.
Finally this week we have some weird Secret Lair news. The April Fools Secret Lair drop, which looked like a low-priced joke drop, has ended up being the most valuable Secret Lair ever released thanks to the late inclusion of a white-border Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded, which is currently selling for over $100 with the sealed drop going for around $150 on eBay. While not all Secret Lair drops look like great value based on the announced cards, the inclusion of bonus cards like fetchlands and stained-glass planeswalkers make most of them worth buying anyway. Sadly the April Fools drop in specific wasn't available online, but it's worth checking with your LGS to see if you can pick up a copy at a fair price.
